General Training Task 1 Formal Letter - 1st
Question
You recently missed an important final examination in one of your college courses. You need to write a letter to the course coordinator, Dr. Evans, to explain your situation.
In your letter:
- explain why you missed the examination
- provide evidence to support your reason
- ask what you should do to complete the course
Write at least 150 words.
Dear Dr. Evans,
My name is John Smith, and my student ID is 785542. I am writing to you for the reason that I missed the final examination for the History of Art course (ART204), which was scheduled on Wednesday, 14th June.
Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the exam because I came down with a severe food poisoning the night before. I had a high fever and felt extremely weak throughout the morning, which made it impossible for me to travel to the college and sit for the exam.
As proof of my illness, I visited my local doctor on the same day. He advised me to rest and provided me with a medical certificate explaining my condition. I have attached with this letter a copy of the doctor’s note for your review.
I have worked hard in this course all semester and I am very worried about how this will affect my final grade. Could you please inform me about the procedure for students in this situation? I would be grateful if there is a possibility to sit for a supplementary exam or complete an alternative assessment to fulfil the course requirements.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely, John Smith
