Question
The two maps below show the coastal village of Southwood in 2005 and 2023. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.

The provided maps illustrate the dramatic transformation of the coastal village of Southwood over an 18-year period from 2005 to 2023. Overall, the village experienced significant modernization and expansion, evolving from a sparsely populated rural area into a more developed residential and commercial community.
One of the most notable developments was the substantial increase in housing. In the north, the area previously occupied by farmland was completely redeveloped with new residential properties, which are served by a new loop road. Similarly, the woodland in the northeast corner of the village was cleared to make way for the construction of a large retirement village. The original cluster of houses in the southwest remained, although the post office was demolished and replaced by a new house.
Regarding commercial and public facilities, the village centre underwent a major overhaul. The small shop present in 2005 was removed and a considerably larger supermarket, accompanied by a new car park to its west, was constructed.
While the northern and eastern landscapes were significantly altered to accommodate this growth, other natural features were preserved. The marshland located in the southeast corner and the beach along the coastline remained entirely unchanged throughout the period, providing a contrast to the extensive development elsewhere in the village.
